The blog has been quiet recently as I’ve been working on a number of new projects including sculpture.
Flying and flight have always fascinated me. As a child, I didn’t just go birdwatching but learned how to make model airplanes from balsa wood. This lifetime interest informs this sculpture.
The wood for this sculpture was found on the beach. It took a while to shape this piece by hand, forming the whole length into a shape that not only resembled a bird’s wing in flight but had the correctly-rounded aerofoil profile of a wing. More pieces will follow…
